So obviously that last post marked the beginning of a blog vacation instead of the awesome series I wanted it to be. That gypsy thing just kind of tanked. I’m all gypsy’ed out.
After giving it careful thought I’ve decided its time for me to come back to my roots. A lot has changed over the past few months. Our family has changed. I got caught up living and let my geeky love fall to the wayside.
I’ve been thinking a lot about that, about the person I want to be. I think I was trying too hard to become like the women I admire. The reality is, I’m not them. I don’t find fulfillment in the same areas. I am a geek. I love our culture. I might be getting older but that doesn’t mean I’m old. I don’t think I have to outgrow what I enjoy. So what if I find the original Pokemon amusing. Who cares if I think robots are cute? I can finish my degree, raise a child, AND be the person I am.
I’ve been struggling lately to fit the “mom” mold. Only recently I realized there’s no such thing. I’m never going to be like some of those other mothers out there- and I don’t need to be. There’s nothing wrong with them. There’s nothing wrong with me. We just are who we are. I’d like to think we can learn to coexist. Maybe I might even be able to fit in without compromising my individuality. I doubt its as difficult as I’ve been making it on myself.
And so, it is with great joy and anticipation that I now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcasts….
Sorry for the lack of posts. I was going to start a series about a big project Geekdude and I were going to do (along with some color themed posts) but the special request was cancelled.
So, I am happy to announce that beginning March 1st the entire house and I will be starting a new project- 31 days of Gypsy!
For those of you who don’t know Geekdude and I both enjoy various LARPs. Our roomies have agreed to give it a go and in honor of the occasion we’re creating new characters, a great big gypsy family!
Geekdude has ordered the materials to create his own set of scale mail armor while I will be working my geeky butt off creating a camp and costuming on a budget. I can’t guarantee many original tutorials but you will be able to watch as project by project (complete with tutorial links) the camp & characters are made.
This all kicks off March 1st, to make the season opener on April 6th.
If you’re curious and want some info on what the heck I’m talking about check out Alliance LARP.
See you on the 1st!
Just a quick check in to let you guys know what’s up.
I’ve been mega busy with numerous crafts (and school) but one thing after another has left me with either no camera or no computer with which to document the process. So yeah, there’s that.
I have a few major manpower projects I’m about to start though so I’m hoping to show a little of what goes on there. Geekdude and I have started collaborating to make working LARP monster props. This week we have a new commission. To be honest I’m pretty excited, this one is right up my alley.
Also, I’ve joined Punk Project’s Craft Marathon. You can expect a weekly post with a tut or link on Saturdays (yes, that means tomorrow) showing a new, geeky creation. This week the theme is Sunshine Yellow.
So yeah, see you tomorrow folks.
It’s crazy how time flies. It’s two months post move and I’m still not completely unpacked. The house has brought a bunch of challenges with it but overall I think it’s been a pretty good move. I had wanted to post a few more tutorials for projects but my camera was AWOL until a few days ago. So, here’s a (mostly) completed project I made in October for Geekdude’s birthday. We had limited funds and limited unpacked supplies. I picked up these old-fashioned glasses and managed to freehand four of the magic the gathering symbols with some glass enamel. You do not want to know what the fifth looked like…. So yeah, I’ve got a few things I’m working on, got my terrible camera back. I hope to return to you shortly. Until then, I’m GM. You stay classy San Diego. ^^
-And my move will soon be upon us, in 6 days to be exact. I’ve got a whole lotta plans including a dedicated crafting & gaming room in our new house where you shall see the fruits of my many labors. If any of you are curious I’m documenting the moving process (and other domestic/womanly stuff) over at my other blog, Half Cocked Living. Yes, I am a lazy last minute packer and no, I’m not ashamed. So go ahead, check it out. I’ll be over there every day between now and then! ^_^
…in real life I should say.
That’s where I’ve been lately and what I’m up to. The move is scheduled for the later half of September. Right now my big focus is on getting all of our finances in order and paring down our possessions ala the simple living movement. I fully plan on coming back but it’ll have to wait until after the move. I want to give a big thanks to those of you who’ve stuck with me through my sporadic posts. You make this whole thing worth it.
If any of you are curious and want to keep up with my general hippieness I’ll be blogging at Our Unschooled Life through the move, don’t let its blogging tumbleweeds scare you. I’ll be posting some kid tutorials, recipes, and household tips over there. You can also follow the move as it comes. We’re upgrading out of apartment living!
So, thanks again guys and I’ll see you after the break!
Anyone else out there a fan? I’m actually a big lover of the arts and used to perform myself before Geekette was born. I’m no dancer though and I have a HUGE amount of respect for those out there who can do it. I watch these guys and I’m amazed at their talent.
But I won’t lie and say that routines like these with obvious geek appeal don’t make me love it more.
