Super Simple Fleece Cowl Tutorial

Today, my friends, we’re making really easy no sew fleece cowls. Unlike scarves you don’t have to worry about loose ends getting caught anywhere or keeping it tied. I grabbed this cute little space alien atom print at Joanns.

First decide who you’re making it for and pick out your dimensions. I made two last night for the little ones. Geekette is almost 4 and I cut this 22″x6″. The fleece on mine had a lot more stretch and I cut it 24″x9″. The height turned out perfect for us. Just keep in mind the measurements and material when you cut. After you have your chunk of fleece trimmed you’re going to want to make cutsĀ  down the ends every half inch, between 1 1/2″ to 2″ in length. It should look like a short scarf at this point.

Now match the ends and start double knotting them together.

And viola, you’ve got yourself a cowl.

You can see the difference in cuts here. The one on the left was 1 1/2″. It’s harder to tie but cute. The one on the right used 2″ cuts and seems pretty unisex that way.

Super cute! I make tons of blankets knotting fleece like this but I never would have thought to make a cowl.

Yeah, I made my first one after cowls started hitting the blogosphere awhile ago. I’m not much of a knitter and I have a fear of sewing machines. It worked pretty well and I’ve been wanting to make her one since. If you do this I’d really recommend getting the stretchy kind of fleece. It fits better that way.
